About Trans Tank Systems:
Trans Tank Systems is a Canadian manufacturer and service provider specializing in tank trucks, pumping systems, hydraulics, custom fabrication, pneumatic and metering systems, and related equipment. Our work includes designing, manufacturing, inspecting, repairing, and servicing specialized vehicles and equipment used in industries where safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance are essential.
With operations in Kinburn and Belleville, we are a hands-on organization where employees work closely across finance, operations, production, service, and leadership. We are looking for a Controller who wants to understand how the business operates, strengthen our financial practices, and help us make better-informed business decisions.
The opportunity:
This is an opportunity to own the accounting and financial management function while helping shape how the role evolves over time.
The Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting cycle and financial reporting while providing meaningful analysis to support pricing, profitability, operational efficiency, and business planning. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable preparing accurate financial information, investigating margin concerns, asking questions of the business, and translating financial results into practical recommendations.
This role is based primarily at our Kinburn facility. Time spent learning our operations, understanding how tanks and related systems are designed and installed, and building relationships with employees across the business will be important. Occasional travel to our Belleville location will also be required.
Key responsibilities:
- Financial reporting and accounting, including maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger.
- Lead the monthly close and prepare timely monthly financial statements and management reporting.
- Prepare year-end working papers and coordinate with the company’s external accountants.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, reconciliations, and other transactional accounting activities.
- Complete or oversee HST filings and other required financial and government reporting.
- Manage payroll administration and related reconciliations and remittances.
- Monitor cash flow and support banking and working-capital management.
Analysis and business support:
- Analyze financial results and explain significant variances, trends, and emerging risks.
- Strengthen job costing and reporting on margins by product, project, service, and business location.
- Work with leadership and operations to identify the causes of margin challenges and recommend practical improvements.
- Support pricing, quoting, purchasing, inventory, labour utilization, and other operational decisions with reliable financial information.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, key performance indicators, and management reports that support business planning.
- Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and usefulness of financial processes and systems.
What you bring:
- A CPA designation is preferred. A combination of relevant education and significant progressive accounting experience will also be considered.
- At least five years of progressive accounting or financial management experience, ideally in manufacturing, custom fabrication, construction, automotive, transportation equipment, or another operational environment.
- Experience managing the general ledger, monthly financial reporting, year-end preparation, payroll, sales tax compliance, and transactional accounting.
- Strong financial analysis skills, including the ability to investigate profitability and margin concerns and identify their underlying causes.
- Experience with job costing, inventory, work in progress, or project-based accounting is a strong asset.
- Strong Excel and accounting-system skills, with an interest in improving financial tools and processes.
- Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to balance accuracy with practical business needs.
- A curious and collaborative approach, with the confidence to ask questions and work directly with operational employees.
- The ability to work primarily on-site in Kinburn and travel occasionally to Belleville.
